balls
The professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, He picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students, if the jar was full. They agreed that it was. The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The...

mongodb aggregation framework
this should give mongo a great perspective albeit the 16mb resulting doc limit. helps sort and group db results in a breeze. you can read more on it here or watch the 10gen presentation git clone from github and build from source to try it out.

on web frameworks : Lithium, Kohana, Pyramid,...
let’s start with the most vocal RoR or Ruby on Rails… as much as i love ruby, as much as i find rails a piece of shit and it’s fanatic vocalist ridiculous. why : slow, pms’y (as in opinionated), memory hog, crappy integration with webserver, it’s magic feature ORM/active record is now available anywhere else. so yeah RoR needs a quad core 8Gb RAM application...

node package manager npm on OpenBSD
the goal as mentioned in the post below is to install npm (node package manager) as user so no sudo and risky stuff with experimental apps. git the source from https://github.com/isaacs/npm fix ./npm/lib/utils/tar.js Line 91 : replace "-T" by "-I" Line 199 : replace "-zmvxpf" by "xvfz" now build npm and install it in your ~/bin folder if that’s where you already installed...

node.js 0.6.1 OpenBSD 5.0
we ported the node.js 0.6.1 to openbsd and my only concern was to provide a way not to install as root as the js dudes around will just tell you sudo make install it but that’s dangerous especially giving a look at the quality of the code of both node.js and npm, the latter is just ridiculous but hey it kind of works so… just install as user and don’t be sorry for node, get the...

OAMP / mongodb-php-apache on openbsd 5.0
this aims for a very lean install of php and mongo on openbsd (dated 11-2011) so real quick without pear, pecl and unnecessary garbage -install or upgrade to your preferred openbsd flavor (stable, release, current) $ sudo pkg_add -vi php $ sudo pkg_add -vi mongodb this should get you php 5.3x and mongo 2.0.x cool isn’t it, load php into apache $ sudo cp...

Tradeshows or not
I fully agree with Apple stopping tradeshows (Re: Macworld Expo). In the course of my work I managed million of dollars related to tradeshow fees and related marketing expenditure. My company loves tradeshows and the buzz they create. They love to host golfs and business poker tournaments in tradeshow times. Be it in Las Vegas Sandsexpo, NYC Jacob Javits, Basel Fair or Hong Kong Wanchai...

TaskPaper Address Book Integration
i love TaskPaper it’s so far the best project/todo manager of its class that i’ve found. as most of my work is around people i needed a way to link an address book contact to a task in TaskPaper. so here you go, i’ve been able to code this in AppleScript which i’ve never used before. This one opens up a contact card without altering anything in the...

SSF2T HD Remix
I’ve first played SF2 on a coin operated arcade machine in ‘91, that makes the game 17years old or so. this new release is a HD redesign of Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo with remixed sounds. It’s beautiful, it comes with 2 games the original as it was released in 94 and the revamped HD version (mostly graphics and sounds were touched and a couple adjustment in players damage...

recovering mac freezes
i’ve been testing alot of apps lately looking for a good mediaserver on my iMac to stream photos, videos and tunes into my PS3 using my private local network. i finally got everything working fine (check the list of apps i use). the problem was that my iMac was freezing at times during the testing process and the hard restart option bothered me a bit, what i did was enabling sshd[1] and...

Resisting an economic downturn
Staying compact, being frugal, focusing on just a few core things at a time, quick wins, eliminating abstractions that lead to miscommunication and complexity, only doing what you need to do instead of everything you could possibly do, delivering real added-value etc. Companies that live these ideas are better off all the time — but especially when times get rough. —Edited from 37...

Advice from Obama
This is the advice Stanislaw “Stas” Gunkel - a 7yo blogger got from Obama I leave you with three bits of advice that will make your life more fulfilling: Look out for other people, even when it does not directly benefit you; strive to make a difference everywhere you go; and get back up every time you are knocked down.

mac or pc?
the new imac’s are woth every penny as you get a huge bump in productivity and the price is sweet. macbook air’s on the other hand are quiet expensive I recommend the Dell’s inspiron and Latitude for laptops/notebooks, the lightest you can get is the best you can buy.
